In the frame of the presentation of Streetlights of Memory – A Stand by Memorial, 2010 / 2015 by Melik Ohanian for the Armenian Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennial, a publication will be edited in order to witness and question the complicated history of the project. This was a public commission sponsored by the City of Geneva in 2010. Using the elements produced by the artists for the international competition (2010) as a starting point, the book will put together a whole set of information, documents, illustrations, newspapers articles as well as other elements that will try to reveal and describe the issues raised by the project, from its very beginning until the complex situation it faces today. An extended version of the book will be published at the end of the Biennale.

— Back Cover
In 2010 the Contemporary Art Fund of Geneva and the Armenian community of the city invited Melik Ohanian to create an installation in memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide of 1915. Though strongly supported by the local community, five years later the memorial hasn’t yet been installed. With the support of original documents, this book traces back the history of the memorial as well as the public controversy and media coverage that accompanied the installation of the project until December 2014. The book also attempts to point out the artist’s decision to show this monument that is not yet, in a different form for the exhibition of The National Pavilion of the Republic of Armenia at the 56th Venice Biennial.
